The leadership model of professors in cultivating self-directed students based on the educational practices of the Imams (AS)

The formation of a modern Islamic civilization requires the cultivation of autonomous human capital. However, the higher education system lacks a theoretical and practical model for fostering students capable of independent thinking and responsible decision-making. This study aims to articulate a model of faculty leadership for cultivating self-directed students—emphasizing autonomy in managing affairs and making decisions—grounded in the educational approach of the Imams (AS). The aim of this research is to present an indigenous and systematic model for instructional leadership focused on student empowerment. The study employs a descriptive-analytical method based on documentary and library research; to this end, the interactive *Sirah* (conduct and tradition) of the Prophet and the Imams was examined—specifically during periods of scientific flourishing and periods of pressure and repression . Data were collected with a focus on identifying the characteristics and practices of educational leadership found in the *Sirah* of the Imams and were analyzed within the framework of the empowerment process. The findings revealed that the educational leadership model derived from the *Sirah* of the Imams (AS) is grounded in key elements such as fostering psychological safety, strengthening critical thinking, providing opportunities for independent learning and research, delegating roles involving responsibility, and facilitating a gradual transition toward self-directedness. Ultimately, a model was presented that delineates the transformation of the professor's role from a "source of information" to an "empowering mentor" grounded in data regarding the educational practices of the Imams (AS), this model is applicable to educational planning and faculty development within civilization-building universities.
