Abstract
Content analysis of the Imams’ (AS) hadiths, considering the circumstances of their narration and their thematic categorization, can reveal each Imam’s plans and strategies for their time and provide a clear picture of their approach to social conditions and the challenges of their era. Accordingly, the present study employs a historical method to examine the content and analysis of Imam Hasan al-Askari’s (AS) hadiths and elucidates their connection with the political and cultural context of his time. The findings indicate that Imam al-Askari’s period of Imamate was marked by severe political pressure, Abbasid security control, and the proliferation of diverse theological and intellectual currents, which threatened the foundational beliefs of the Islamic community, particularly the Shia. The Muslim community faced conflicting currents such as anthropomorphism, dualism, Mu’tazilism, Nasibism, extremism, and certain Shia sects that sought to promote misconceptions regarding monotheism, Imamate, religious rulings, exegesis, and ethics. In this environment, Imam Hasan al-Askari (AS), through a rational, transcendental, and educational approach, clarified the correct understanding of monotheism and Mahdism, reinforced the concept of Imamate and the authority of the Imams (AS), and organized ethical, jurisprudential, and exegetical teachings, thereby safeguarding the Shia community from the confusions and doubts of the era. It can be said that Imam Hasan al-Askari (PBUH) occupies a unique position in preserving the scientific heritage of the Ahl al-Bayt (AS) and articulating religious knowledge, serving as a bridge between the teachings of previous Imams and the intellectual groundwork for the period of the Greater Occultation.
