Abstract
In this regard, the present study, focusing on addiction prevention and treatment strategies based on the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and the Ahl al-Bayt (A), seeks to explain the cognitive and educational capacities of religion in managing this phenomenon. Employing a descriptive-analytical method and relying on qualitative content analysis of religious sources, this research adopts a jurisprudential and Qur’anic approach to extract and explain strategies for the prevention and treatment of addiction. The findings indicate that the Islamic model of confronting addiction is founded upon three principal dimensions. First is the preventive approach, emphasizing such principles as the rule of “no harm” (la darar), the prohibition against casting oneself into destruction, and the necessity of safeguarding human intellect and well-being. Second is the cognitive and perceptual approach, which includes strengthening faith, trust in God, hope, and reflection, thereby providing the basis for reforming attitudes and reconstructing personal identity. Third is the behavioral approach, centered on practical action, consultation, continuous effort, avoidance of corrupt environments, and the reinforcement of patience and perseverance throughout the process of recovery. The results of the study demonstrate that the teachings of the Qur’an and the Ahl al-Bayt (A), through presenting a comprehensive and integrated framework of cognitive and behavioral strategies, possess considerable capacity for the prevention and treatment of addiction and can provide a coherent model for reducing social harms.
